The Spanish Health Minister Alfonso Alonso and seven other former members of the City Council of Vitoria sentenced to jointly reimburse the municipality with over half a million Euro for undue wastage of public funds.
The newspaper Publico says that Spanish National Audit Office found serious irregularities in the hiring of several premises in Vitoria, to the municipality.
Health Minister Alfonso Alonso was mayor when the contract was signed in 2007, which meant that the council undertook to under 20 years pay a rent totaling 6.2 million Euros. That’s more than twice as much as what the landlord, an influential entrepreneur, paid for the premises only a year earlier and it smells corruption as usual in Spanish politic.
